PHIL MCLAIN | Owner & Senior Project Manager
Phil, an Estes Park native, has been in the building industry for almost three decades. He began his career as a carpenter driven by a passion for craftsmanship and quality. Later, in 2009, Phil founded McLain Construction, initially working as a subcontractor and earning a solid reputation for expert carpentry and dependable project management. By 2019, Phil had grown the company into a general contracting firm that has a strong reputation for high-end custom homes and standout commercial projects. Phil is deeply involved in every project from preconstruction through completion, ensuring that each detail reflects the company’s commitment to excellence. Phil takes pride in building lasting relationships and contributing to the community. Outside of work, Phil enjoys snowboarding, camping, biking, and four-wheeling in the Colorado backcountry with his wife, Abby, and their three sons.
JOSH BENDER | Project Estimator
Josh joined our team with a strong foundation in estimating, graduating from Colorado State University with a degree in Construction Management. With thirteen years of experience in the construction industry, Josh has developed extensive expertise in both commercial and residential estimating. He excels at accurately producing detailed project estimates, and working through preconstruction details with clients, architects and engineers. A Colorado native, Josh brings a deep understanding of the local community and landscape to every project. Outside of the office, Josh embraces adventure whether it’s rock climbing, snowboarding, camping, or challenging gravity with many skydiving jumps. His passion for pushing limits translates into his work, where he continually strives for excellence and precision.
ANDY HUMAN | Project Manager
Originally from South Africa, Andy has called Colorado home for almost thirty years. Drawn to the state's endless opportunities for outdoor adventure and its sunny climate, he quickly embraced the active Colorado lifestyle. With over thirty years of experience in the construction industry including running his own general contracting firm, Andy brings a wealth of knowledge to every project. He thrives on the creative problem solving and collaborative effort that successful construction demands, and he takes great pride in delivering tangible, high-quality results. For Andy, the most rewarding part of the job is building strong relationships with clients and the whole team. Outside of work, Andy enjoys traveling to remote destinations, riding his dirt bike, spending time on the water, and being with his family. Andy is married and the proud father of two grown children.
AJ CARLSON | Project Manager / Supervisor
Raised near the beaches in Florida, AJ is now rooted in the Colorado mountains. He has his degree in Construction Management from Colorado State University, equipping him with the skills to oversee every aspect of a project. As the Project Manager and Site Supervisor, AJ ensures each job runs smoothly, stays on schedule, and meets the highest quality standards. Outside of work, he enjoys riding dirt bikes through rugged terrain, snowboarding, fishing, and hunting making the most of Colorado’s great outdoors.
ABBY MCLAIN | Office Manager
As our Office Manager, Abby has been a vital part of the company since day one; supporting Phil and the business every step of the way. With roots in Wisconsin, she proudly calls Colorado home after living in the Rockies for over two decades. Abby brings a sharp eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks with ease keeping the business running smoothly behind the scenes. Her commitment to excellence and her passion for the people she works with make her an essential part of the team. When she’s not managing the day-to-day operations, Abby loves embracing mountain life with her husband, Phil, and their three sons. Whether it’s snowboarding, paddleboarding, river tubing, ice skating, or dreaming up her family’s next alpine adventure, she’s always finding new ways to explore the outdoors.
JJ JIMENEZ | Carpenter
Raised in Steamboat Springs, JJ is a skilled carpenter with fifteen years of experience. He loves that no two days on the job are ever the same and especially enjoys working on custom projects that let him think outside the box. JJ plays a vital role in what keeps our projects moving and looking great. Outside of work, he’s a family man who loves spending time with his wife and three children. Recently, he’s also earned a reputation as a master of the barbecue grill. Known for his generous spirit, JJ often spends his free time helping others whenever he can. His mix of craftsmanship, versatility, and leadership make him a key part of our crew.
CHRISTOPHER KRENZ | Carpenter
After growing up in Minnesota, Christopher settled in Colorado, drawn to the easy access to the mountains and wilderness. With over twelve years of carpentry experience, he brings skill, precision, and a love for problem-solving to every project. While he can handle nearly any aspect of carpentry, he especially enjoys framing, appreciating the variety and knowledge the craft offers. In his free time, Christopher enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, snowmobiling, hiking, and shed hunting.
CHARLES SIMPSON | Carpenter
Born and raised in Estes Park, Charles has always had a deep appreciation for Colorado’s natural beauty and the endless opportunities for outdoor adventure. Whether he’s fishing, hiking, hunting, snowboarding, or discovering great local restaurants, he loves exploring everything the state has to offer year-round. With many years of hands-on experience in carpentry, Charles has developed strong skills in framing and welding, along with many hours dedicated to learning and refining trim carpentry. He approaches his craft as a lifelong student by always improving, innovating, and pushing himself to the next level. What Charles enjoys most about carpentry is that ingenuity and skill are constantly being tested. Having worked alongside many talented builders, he’s proud to be part of the McLain crew, where the team continually raises the bar for luxury homebuilding.
